Steering Removal

 

SAFETY FIRST: Protective gloves and eyewear are recommended at this point.

 

Support the motorcycle with a suitable stand or jack so that the front wheel is off of the ground. Grasp the bottom of the fork legs and move the steering lock-to-lock. Also try and move the wheel forward and backward. If you detect rough or abnormal movement the steering bearings may need to be replaced.

 

Remove the front wheel. See the Front Wheel Removal topic for more information.

 

Remove the front forks. See the Fork Removal topic for more information.

 

Remove the front fender. See the Front Fender topic for more information.

 

Remove the plastic headlight cover and headlight assembly. See the Headlight topic for more information.

 

Remove the front turn signals. See the Lights topic for more information.

Remove the headlight brackets from fork clamps.

 

Remove the speedometer cable guide bolt and lock-washer with a #2 Phillips screwdriver. Remove the speedometer cable guide from the steering stem lower bracket.

 

Remove the speedometer. See the Speedometer topic for more information.

 

Remove the handlebar. See the Handlebar topic for more information.
